    The Escapism of Girly Shows

I will be honest: I love me some Emily in Paris. Right now I am deep into Elle too, that high-gloss, leggy fever dream that is unfortunately a bit too woke for me, but my Millennial upbringing has me glued to the screen. Millennial women who grew up practicing courtroom monologues in the bathroom mirror while quoting “What, like it’s hard?”—this is our official reunion tour. And apparently we are not alone. Hell, even today’s vice president is out here watching Emily in Paris. When the second-most powerful person in the country is also mainlining the same frothy French fantasy, you know the show has officially transcended “problematic” and become pure cultural infrastructure. He is also a millennial, afterall…

Most nights my boyfriend and I do the responsible-couple thing: we pick a show “together.” Something dense and dramatic—plot twists we can unpack afterward like amateur therapists. It is intimate. It is grown-up. It is the relationship equivalent of a thoughtfully plated tasting menu. But every once in a while the craving hits hard: pure, unfiltered escapism. Not the heavy kind of craving that forces you to confront your own life choices. The frivolous kind that lets you clock out of reality entirely and live inside someone else’s carefully filtered chaos (something I am blamed for doing far too often). So he hands over the Netflix password like a soft-dom sugar daddy he can be and I disappear into a binge that demands zero emotional labor from either of us.

Emily in Paris supposedly blew up during the pandemic—when the entire planet was locked inside, starved for color, and desperate for anything that did not look like sweatpants and existential dread. The algorithm fed us that glossy Parisian candy like a collective coping mechanism. Fine. Whatever. I was not there for the quarantine comfort. It is not like I let some silly, little sickness take over my life! Instead, I got sucked in by the constant, unapologetic collision between American and European cultures…the wide-eyed hustle versus the practiced eye-roll, the “why not?” energy slamming into the “why would you ever?” attitude. That friction felt familiar as hell. I lived versions of it in real time: the moments my own optimistic, slightly chaotic American wiring collides with cooler, more restrained European mindsets and neither side is willing to fully surrender.

Obviously the fashion is its own controlled substance—outfits so aggressively styled, colors that refuse to apologize, accessories that scream “I woke up like this and still look richer than you.” But the real high, at least at first, is not just watching it alone. It is the after-party of telling him about every ridiculous plot point, every cultural micro-aggression, every look that made me want a beret collection. I map the show’s exaggerated culture wars onto my own experiences—the times I have been the loud American in a quieter room, the times I have watched someone side-eye my enthusiasm like it was a personal attack, the times fashion became armor or a middle finger. It turns passive binge-watching into this ongoing private conversation, half roast, half confession, and somehow more addictive than the show itself.

So yes—I take a few deliberate days every year to slip straight back into full girly-era mode. No apologies. No intellectual alibis. Just me, the algorithm, and an unapologetic dive into the pinkest, most over-the-top corners of television. Because sometimes the most rebellious thing you can do is refuse to grow out of the things that still make you feel electric.

  • Lounge in Style: My Favorite Sustainable Pants Reviewed

Lounge in Style: My Favorite Sustainable Pants Reviewed

You probably remember me gushing a few weeks ago about my latest fixation: organic and sustainable fabrics. After years of living in Lululemon and ALO Yoga pants (you know the ones — buttery soft, compressive, and basically a second skin), I finally hit a wall with all that polyester. Do not get me wrong, those pieces served me well through countless workouts, lazy days, and everything in between (and they are simply beautiful!) But the constant grinding against synthetic materials started to feel… off. My hormones, my comfort, and honestly my entire vibe were ready for a change.

Enter my amazing man, who always knows exactly how to spoil me in the most thoughtful ways. He surprised me with not one, but two incredible new sustainable pairs of pants that have completely transformed my daily wardrobe. I am officially obsessed, and I need to tell you all about them.

First Up: Lotus and Luna Harem Pants — My New Fairytale Lounge Uniform

    NEW!! #OperationHouseWifey

The first pair are these absolutely adorable harem pants from Lotus and Luna. They are a soft, light blue base with delicate white pinstripes that catch the light just right. From the moment I slipped them on, I was in love. These are not workout pants — they’re pure lounge luxury. Lightweight, breathable, and ridiculously comfortable, they feel like wearing a gentle cloud around the house.

What really gets me? They look like they walked straight out of Aladdin. The relaxed, flowy silhouette with that subtle taper at the ankle gives major Jasmine-meets-modern-boho energy. I’ve been wearing them while making morning coffee, curling up with a book on the couch, and even running quick errands. They’re the kind of pants that make you feel both cozy and a little bit magical. Every time I catch my reflection, I can’t help but smile. Sustainable fashion that feels this good? Yes, please.

Then Came the Pact Black Workout Leggings — And My Doubts Melted Away

I will be honest — when my guy first mentioned switching to organic cotton workout leggings from Pact, I was a little skeptical. I had this mental image of thin, flimsy fabric that would not hold up to movement or offer any support. Boy, was I wrong.

These black Pact leggings are an absolute game-changer. They hug my body in all the right places without feeling restrictive. The fabric is surprisingly thick and substantial (the opposite of flimsy!), with a beautiful weight to it that makes me feel supported as I move through my day. They move with me like they were custom-made.

The organic cotton feels so much kinder on my skin compared to traditional synthetics. Most importantly, I am not constantly freezing! There is no weird static, no overheating, and that synthetic “clammy” feeling after a few hours. I am genuinely enamored. So much so that we have already ordered two more pairs. At this rate, my entire clothing rack is about to undergo a full sustainable makeover.

Organic fabrics like the ones from Lotus and Luna and Pact are grown without harmful pesticides, support ethical farming practices, and often come from brands that prioritize transparency and sustainability. For someone who lives in activewear as much as I do, making this swap feels like a small but meaningful step.

I am already planning my summer wardrobe around these discoveries. The Pact leggings are so versatile that I woprobably live in their biker short version when the temperatures climb. And those Lotus and Luna harem pants? They are going to be my go-to for everything.

My experience switching out my yoga pants has been nothing short of delightful. These pants have not just replaced my old favorites; they have elevated how I feel in my own skin every single day.

  • Organically Made

    Organically Made

You all know that I am obsessed with organic foods. My distrust of the food industry runs deep—processed junk loaded with seed oils, additives, and mystery chemicals that wreck our metabolism, hormones, and energy. I believe in choosing clean, supportive fuel that helps our bodies thrive rather than fight constantly. Today, I want to apply that same scrutiny to everything I put in or on my body.

But clothes? For the longest time, I gave them a pass. Sure, I knew polyester was basically plastic—petroleum-derived trash that is cheap to produce and insanely profitable for brands. They just slap a high price tag on something made from recycled water bottles while our skin pays the real cost. (Hence why I never bought into recycling!)

I understood it traps heat, does not breathe, and sheds microplastics everywhere. But I shrugged it off. I was always a fashionista at heart. As long as I looked good for pictures, I did not care about what I was doing to my health. Until recently.

Polyester (and its synthetic counterparts like nylon, spandex, and acrylic) is not just uncomfortable. It is problematic for health, especially hormones. These fabrics are loaded with or treated using endocrine-disrupting chemicals: phthalates, BPA, antimony, PFAS “forever chemicals,” and more. When you sweat, move, or just wear them all day, these can leach onto your skin and get absorbed, especially during workouts or in warm conditions.

They mimic estrogen, mess with thyroid function, progesterone balance, fertility, and more. Microplastics shed with every wash and wear (hundreds of thousands per load) end up in our water, air, dust, and eventually our bodies. Research links this chronic exposure to inflammation, metabolic issues, and hormonal chaos—the exact opposite of the pro-metabolic, high-energy life I am going for.

It is the clothing version of eating ultra-processed junk. Brands love it because it is dirt cheap and durable in a “will not biodegrade for 200+ years” kind of way. We are literally strapping plastic to our bodies for convenience and aesthetics.

I used to roll my eyes at hemp, organic cotton, linen, and similar natural fabrics. They screamed crunchy granola, hipster vibes—flowy dresses, scratchy textures, and overpriced “ethical” lines that felt more performative than practical.

    Until now.

After digging deeper (and begging my boyfriend to let me try some pieces), I get it. These are not hippie relics; they are superior, science-backed upgrades that align perfectly with a distrust-the-industry, body-honoring lifestyle.

    • Hemp: Incredibly durable (stronger and longer-lasting than cotton), naturally antimicrobial and UV-protective, breathable, and softens with wear. It requires minimal water/pesticides to grow, improves soil, and is biodegradable. Feels cooling and fresh—perfect for everyday wear without the plastic sweat-trap.
    • Organic Cotton: Soft, hypoallergenic, breathable. No toxic pesticides or GMOs like conventional cotton. Gentle on sensitive skin and does not hold onto odors or bacteria like synthetics.
    • Linen (from flax): The ultimate summer fabric—highly breathable, moisture-wicking, and antibacterial. It gets softer over time and has a beautiful, lived-in drape that looks effortlessly chic now, not dated.

These fabrics support your body’s natural regulation: better temperature control, less irritation, no chemical leaching. They biodegrade instead of polluting forever. And once you experience how they feel—light, non-clingy, skin-friendly—you will never go back.

This doesn’t mean overnight wardrobe overhaul or spending thousands.

Start small— like making sure your loungewear and whatever you spend most time wearing is natural. Read labels!  I will no longer have my man buy me a date outfit that is made of plastic no matter how cute (because it will make me cold and uncomfortable), but I still wear leggings every day for my workouts so we have work to do!

It feels empowering, just like choosing ripe fruit, fresh dairy, and avoiding PUFAs. Your skin, hormones, and peace of mind will thank you.
